Building Plans
Building Plans
Building plans are scale diagrams which are used in the construction/alteration of buildings. So, for example, if you are building a self-build house or adding an extension to your home then your architect will draw up building plans for you. You may need these if you need to apply for issues such as planning permission.
There are various kinds of building plans that can be used depending on the work that is being done. For example:
- Site plans - these plans show the actual building as a whole together with any other related buildings such as garages that will be built. It also shows how the building is located in relation to streets, roads and to neighbouring buildings.
- Floor plans - these plans show how every floor in a building will be laid out. So, they will include rooms, doors, windows, cupboards and staircases, for example.
- Elevation plans - these plans show each side of the house and are designed to show the height of the building and any windows, doors and features.
- Electrical/plumbing plans - these plans will explain the layout of electricity/plumbing supplies and outlets in the building.
Accuracy is important with building plans as these will be used as blue-prints for any work that is being done.
